Peg Cullen

Trained as an abstract expressionist, I am interested in the properties of scale, color, shape, light and paint application. Feeling the need to be able to draw better I took many drawing classes until I was able to capture a realistic image on the paper. Currently I am concerned with balancing recognizable images that interest me with an expressionistic approach to the way light and color play on these subjects. I continue to be interested in a wide range of subjects painted on a large scale in order to express my feelings and observations about them. I continue to strive for a balance of realism and expressionism in my work.

Renewed Traditions

Handspun Woolen/Knit/Felted Garments/Accessories: Hats, handbags, etc. Unique novelty yarns and unusual dying techniques provide original flares to traditional clothing items.

Woven: Rugs, wood caddies, wall hangings. Generations of Swedish craftsmanship and weaving techniques culminate in the construction of our rugs. We use traditional accent stripes with contemporary fabrics and color schemes to modernize our rugs and wood caddies.

It is all about ART, it is all about passion and emotions!

I started painting when I was a child and I really enjoyed doing it. I attended an Art School in Ukraine between 1987 and 1989. For the last 8 years I worked as a freelance web and graphics designer. But painting remained my hobby since childhood, and about a three years ago I decided to dedicate most of my free time to it. In the last year I have taken classes in acrylic and oil painting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and watercolor classes at Madison Area Technical College (MATC). My web design work and my paintings are related in the sense that they let me use my imagination to create something new and unique, but I think that with a brush I can do more from my heart.
